Serving Hamilton, Trenton, and West Windsor, NJ

The 2017 Honda Accord was by all rights one of the top midsize cars in America. It got even better in 2018 with the debut of the all-new, 10th generation Accord. The new model features a more aggressive exterior, new engines, more space and more standard equipment. The 2017 Accord Coupe has been dropped.

What's the Difference in Performance?

The 2017 engines were a 2.4-liter I-4 delivering 185 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque into a continuously variable automatic transmission or 6-speed manual, and a 3.5-liter V6 outputting 278 horsepower and 252 lb-ft into a 6-speed automatic. 2018 sees a new pair of engines. The larger of the two is a 252 horsepower, 273 lb-ft 2.0-liter direct-injected DOHC turbo coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual. The base engine is a 1.5-liter direct-injected DOHC turbo with 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque matched with either a continuously variable automatic transmission or the 6-speed manual. These new engines employ quick-spooling turbos and variable valve-timing. The 2018 Accord Touring gains a new adaptive suspension.

Honda Sensing safety features became standard on all 2018 Accord trim levels, whereas they were an extra-cost option in 2017. These features include traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and road departure mitigation.

What's the Difference in Appearance?

The 2018 model has a longer wheelbase and is wider, but the 2017 Accord is longer and taller. The newer model has a tighter turning diameter, but a smaller fuel tank. The 2018 Accord has more rear head room and rear leg room, while the 2017 has more head, shoulder and leg room up front. The two tie for rear shoulder room, but the 2018 has more passenger and cargo volume.

Have the Features Changed?

The 2018 Accord interior has gone upscale, with luxurious soft-touch materials, a contoured steering wheel, and new front seats boasting higher seatbacks and additional padding. Front seat options in 2018 include 12-way power, 4-way lumbar support and cooling/heating. The rear seats offer available heated seats and backs. The 2018 model now offers several new infotainment and smartphone integration options.
