Performance

Buyers in Hamilton, Lawrence Township, Trenton, West Windsor, and Robbinsville tend to look at what's hiding under the hood when shopping for a new vehicle. The all-new Earth Dream 3.5-liter V6, found in all Pilot trim levels, offers a very healthy 280 hp and delivers 262 lb-ft to the pavement via a six-speed automatic in most trims and an available nine-speed automatic in Touring and Elite models. No matter which version of the 2016 Pilot you choose, there is more than enough power to haul the kids to their next soccer match.

The choice of engines in the Kia Sorento is a little more confusing and somewhat less than impressive. At the base level is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is rated at 185 hp and only 178 lb-ft of torque. In the middle is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is rated at 240 hp. At the upper end and for significantly more money is a 3.3-liter V6 that produces 290 hp but only delivers 252 lb-ft of torque, significantly less than the V6 found in the Pilot.

Interior

Most people who buy an SUV do so because they need or want plenty of space for their family. While both the Pilot and the Sorento make great family vehicles, the Pilot offers seating for up to eight people depending on the type of second row seating you choose. It is one of the only three-row SUVs to offer a choice between captain's seats or a bench in the second row.

The Kia Sorento only offer seating for up five or seven passengers, which could leave you coming up short when it's your turn to haul the local soccer team to the next game. On top of this the Pilot is slightly larger in overall dimensions. This makes it a better choice for taller people and the extra cargo space is sure to come in handy for those warehouse club shopping trips.

Safety

No one knows more about protecting your family than the design team at Honda. Both vehicles come standard with the basics such as a wealth of airbags, four wheel antilock brakes, and electronic stability and traction controls. All Pilots also come with a rearview camera as standard. Upgraded safety features include blind-spot warning, front and rear parking sensors, and the Honda Sensing package.
