2016 Honda Civic vs 2016 Mazda3

Serving Hamilton, Trenton, and West Windsor, NJ

If after all of your research you have found these two compact cars at the top of your list, you truly can't go far wrong with either of them. Both of these vehicles offer stylish good looks, class leading fuel economy, dependability, and a wealth of popular features. Thanks to recent upgrades including a new more powerful top of the line turbo charged engine, the 2016 Honda Civic has a lot more to offer and in our opinion is the much better choice over the 2016 Mazda3.

Performance

Let's face it, even those who are shopping for a compact car in and around Hamilton, Lawrence Township, Trenton, West Windsor, and Robbinsville, NJ want one that has plenty of power. Both the Civic and the Mazda3 offer class leading power and at the top end of the spectrum are very closely matched. However, with its turbocharged 1.5 liter inline four-cylinder engine, the base model 2016 Honda Civic offers more power and narrows the gap between base and upper trim levels.

The Mazda3 may come out slightly ahead in overall power, but the difference between base and top trim levels is far less significant, making you wonder it the difference in price is worth it. While both vehicles offer excellent overall fuel economy, the top trim level Civic nets a very impressive 31/42 mpg when equipped with a constantly variable transmission (CVT). The Mazda3 comes with a six-speed shiftable automatic transmission and comes in a close second at 28/39 mpg.

Interior

Compact cars have never been thought of as being overly spacious, an image that both Honda and Mazda have managed to dispel with these offerings. Both offer similar head and leg room for those in the front seats, but the Mazda3 comes up just a little short in rear leg room for those who are relegated to the rear seats. In fact, the 2016 Civic offers almost two inches more leg room than the 2016 Mazda3, something worth noting for those who routinely carry taller passengers.

The 2016 Honda Civic comes with a host of features intended to make your daily commute more enjoyable. Among these are climate control complete with interior air filtration in comparison to the 2016 Mazda3 which offers standard air conditioning. The Civic also offers a 160-watt sound system with USB connections in base level trim compared to the standard AM/FM stereo found in the Mazda3 with only four speakers compared to six in the Civic.

Safety

Both the 2016 Civic and Mazda3 come from a long line of safety award winning vehicles. They offer a host of airbags, standard all-wheel antilock brakes, and electronic stability and traction controls. The 2016 Civic also features front and rear wheel disc brakes, and a rear view camera as standard features instead of as options. EX and higher trim levels also come with a blind-spot camera mounted in the right-side rear view mirror.

Among the many available safety features are the Honda Sensing safety package. This package includes lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, and lane departure intervention. All of these safety features are standard on the Touring trim level. The 2016 Mazda3 Touring and Grand Touring models also include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a range of other important safety features.
