Performance

Although we are comparing base models of both the 2016 Honda Civic and Nissan Altima, it may seem strange that we are trying to compare a four-cylinder engine to a V6. Both of these engines offer plenty of power for driving in and around Hamilton, Robbinsville, Trenton, West Windsor, and Lawrence Township. Despite having a four-cylinder engine that does not offer the same level of horsepower as the Altima, the 2.0-liter engine and its accompanying six-speed manual gearbox offer exceptional acceleration, even when you are carrying a full load of passengers.

The Altima may actually offer more overall power due to the two extra cylinders and larger size, but at the same time, drivers can expect significantly lower fuel economy and higher operating costs over the course of ownership. This extra cost of operation tends to be a major concern amongst the majority of mid-size sedans. According to the latest EPA reports, the 2016 Honda Civic offers an estimated 31 city/41 highway mpg*, the 2016 Altima on the other hand only rates 27 city/39 highway mpg, a very noticeable difference.

Interior

Both the 2016 Honda Civic and Nissan Maxima offer seating for up to five passengers. Those who typically find themselves relegated to the back seats will find the extra head and leg room in the Civic adds significantly to the overall comfort. This extra room in both front and rear seats makes the Civic the obvious choice for taller passengers and drivers. The redesigned Civic is 2 inches wider and 3 inches longer than previous models adding not only to the amount of available interior space but also cargo space.

Once you open the door of the 2016 Civic, you will find Honda has used a wide variety of top quality materials to provide you with a luxurious and extremely comfortable space in which to spend your commuting hours. The Civic features a 7-inch touchscreen that is used to access the infotainment system and a wealth of apps. A Honda exclusive is the capacitive touch volume control mounted on the steering wheel. This control lets you control audio volume by using it as a rocker switch or by simply sliding your fingers across it, much like a smartphone. The Honda Infotainment system is designed to work with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety

Both Honda and Nissan have a reputation for building exceptionally safe vehicles. Each comes with four-wheel antilock brakes, plenty of airbags, and the latest in electronic traction and stability controls. The Civic also includes a rearview camera as standard. When you move up to the EX trim level, the Civic also comes with a blind spot monitor. At the Touring level, you also get the Honda Sensing safety package.
