2016 Honda Accord vs Toyota Camry Review

Getting five passengers and their commensurate merchandise around with a good balance of luxury and fuel efficiency is the goal of the mid-size sedan. Looking at sales, the Toyota Camry has accomplished this aim better than the competition for the last 14 years. Examining the stats, though, would suggest the 2016 Honda Accord might make a preferable choice. Just consider these reasons.

Performance

The Accord stocks its models with either a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder or a 3.5 liter V-6. The Camry lineup includes a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder or a 3.5 liter V-6. Offered in the Accord LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L editions, the 2.4 liter engine creates 185 horsepower instead of the 178 horsepower released by the 2.5 liter Camry alternative. The 3.5 liter V-6 Honda installs in its EX-L and Touring models produces 278 horsepower while the 3.5 liter Camry V-6 only makes 268 horses. All Camry models rely on a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the Accord series uses three transmission choices of a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, or a CVT or continuously variable transmission.

Comfort

Comfort starts with room to stretch. The Accord, at 119 cubic feet of interior volume, gives passengers nearly an extra cubic foot of capacity over the 118.1 cubic feet in the Camry. This primarily translates into about an additional inch of front legroom. To accompany the space, the Accord equips all but the LX edition with a 10-way powered driver seat. The Camry is limited to 8 positions. Unlike the Camry, the Accord Touring edition also supplies heating for the rear seat tier. Active Sound Control and Active Noise Control technology is added to all models of the Accord to keep unwanted noise out of the cabin.

Safety

Both vehicles improved body construction for 2016 and are supplied with antilock brakes, a full array of airbags, stability and traction control, tire pressure monitoring, and a backup camera. Both vehicles furnish high-tech mechanisms like lane departure alerts and lane keeping assist that nudges steering to hold the car within its current lane. Frontal collision alert with automatic braking is also available on either vehicle. The Accord gains an advantage with the addition of a blind spot camera that?s activated with the right turn signal and puts the image on the seven-inch console display.
