2018 Honda Accord vs 2018 Toyota Camry

Serving Hamilton, Trenton, and West Windsor, NJ

It?s 2018, and the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are still on top of the hugely competitive midsize sedan market, duking it out for top-dog status. Both have earned high sales numbers and critical acclaim for decades, as they have been able to provide the very best of the class: great fuel economy, expert engineering, and established reputation for durability and reliability. Both are redesigned to kick off new production cycles; the Accord is on its tenth generation of production and the Camry?s on its eighth. Choosing one over the other is really a toss-up. However, Honda has done enough on its best-seller to put it ahead of its Toyota counterpart based on the following:

City Fuel Efficiency

No longer is there a V6 available on the Honda Accord. On the 2018 version, Honda introduced a pair of engines that emphasize fuel efficiency without sacrificing sufficient output. There?s a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder, which serves as the standard engine and produces 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque; and there?s the available 2.0-liter I4, which provides 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine, when paired with the available continuously variable transmission (CVT) instead of the standard 6-speed manual, supplies the Accord with a peak city fuel economy of 30 mpg*. On the 2018 Toyota Camry, the most fuel-efficient powertrain configuration is a 2.5-liter I4 paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The result is a city fuel efficiency that peaks at 29 mpg, which is a mile-per-gallon less than the maximum available on the Accord*.

Transmission Choices

While the 2018 Toyota Camry has just one transmission, the 2018 Honda Accord offers three. The 6-speed manual is the ideal choice for ultimate control over gear shifting and sports-like driving feel. The previously mentioned CVT eliminates the energy-eating gear-shifting mechanism of traditional gearboxes to provide a more fuel-efficient and smoother ride. And the 10-speed automatic transmission?a first for the Accord?has reduced shift shock and increased off-road ability (impressive for a midsize sedan) because of the decreased space between gears.
